When interviewing for a position in the Web industry, nothing is more important than demonstrating your experience and projecting your enthusiam and creativity.
The Web changes so dramatically and so quickly that it is important that you show your flexibility. Your whole job description could change a month after you're hired and your employer should be confidant that you can adapt and grow with those changes.
For example, a Web developer hired in June 2007 may need to have extensive knowledge of a technology such as AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript with XML). In December 2004, nobody had yet heard of AJAX!! Current skills may include the Yahoo UI (YIU) Library, Ruby on Rails and experience with mashups.
Be prepared to provide URLs for sites you've developed, even if they're just personal or hobby sites. Be able to explain why you chose a certain layout or style. Any site created since 1998 must make good use of CSS stylesheets. If your current sites do not use CSS, start reimplementing now!
Even though the dot-com bust severely affected the Web industry, the Web is still expanding and new ideas, techniques and solutions are being developed all the time. Keep looking and you will most likely find the job you want.
